Rule bustin’

I don’t like to break rules.
I am a rule follower. When I was in school, and the teacher would leave the room… I’d be the one student that absolutely refused to talk and cut up. Really! I was.
But I am also a nervous sort when it comes to government and paperwork.

Do you know that the reason that I chose to sell doll and dog clothing is that I didn’t want to deal with all the rules that go along with selling children’s clothing?
I did have this great idea to sell these hats… then I found out they have to be compliant too. In fact I just found that out as in a week or so ago. Hats don’t need testing…but they still need to be '“compliant”. The person that told me that hats don’t matter was way wrong. And therefore, I’ve spent the last 3 or 4 days learning and studying and spending money on books to help me learn more.
Oh guess what? Hair bows. Yep. Need to be “compliant”.
Stephen’s toys too.

This is an actual photo of me keeping my nose above the water the last week between the IRS and my messed up sales tax, and this week with the CPSC and all their rules. I mean it’s really no wonder there are so many rule breakers out there. I’m a rule buster. As in, follow the rules even when they are hard. Bust through them.

Good thing I don’t mind researching, I just get scared about government paperwork sort of stuff. It has always freaked me out dealing with them, but goodness knows I have dealt with so many different government agencies the last few years. You’d think I would feel like they are an old friend at this point.

Anyway, once I found out that I have to make all my wonderful hats compliant, and once I found out that I have to make all my hair bows compliant, it was a big pffft…. I might as well just create the beautiful children’s clothes that I love!

This is also an actual photo of me being undecided. FOREVER undecided.

Gosh I am thankful for this blog. It helps me with my decision ponderings.

SOOOOO, I spent the last 3 days getting ducks in a row compliancy wise. I have a bunch of documents I need to write (Or at least start with recording them from this point forward I think is what I’ll do instead. It’ll be ok. It’s a new year.) I’ve gotten all registered with the government, and I type this with a very, very happy heart.

You know why? Because I can walk back into that sewing room knowing that I CAN make my items compliant, and I CAN make whatever I want to make now because I KNOW HOW!!

And I am not even going to tell you what I am going to make. Because I don’t know. The artist in me decides when I pull out the fabric.
I probably won’t make too many snuggle hoods. ( Shhh, but my creative self found them a bit lifeless. They stifled those juices. Goodness knows we don’t need my brain juices stifled. ) Do you all seriously know how many wonderful items I can make now that I am entering the compliant world?

HOLD THE BOAT!!
I am sorry but this doesn’t mean I’ll take custom orders. I tried that in the quilting world and custom sewing orders just are not for me. I just sew whatever is in my wee little brain.

While typing this blog post, my conformation email came through that this designer right here is working on my compliancy labels. That’s pretty cool.
Another giant leap.

So, I’ve used my self imposed stay at home order to really make progress. I am so thankful to have faced these hurdles and gotten over them. Also, I’ve figured out how to turn on commenting for my blog. Cool.
